Hello, I'm Deborah, I created MoggyBoxCraft to document and share my crafting adventures, DIYs, up-cycling, re-purposing and costume crafting tutorials, (Although they may be more entertaining than helpful.) with the occasional Make-up attempt/tutorial thrown into the mix too.
I love the idea of living self-sufficiently, but I live in a city, so urban farming it is. I'll be sharing my garden progress, along with my expectations versus the reality and challenges of learning to grow my own veg in the North East of Scotland as an urban gardener, and of course what recipes I try with the fruit/veg I grow.

Drinking and burning stuff sounds like a good reason to attend this event 😀, thanks for the good humor and informative video
That is absolutely beautiful!!❤
I really don't like gardening. But I love your accent. So maybe if I watch enough of your video's I might feel inspired to start gardening again.
You're so beautiful and thank you for sharing. I got my too and bottom tattood yesterday I woke up this morning with wearing and old crusty discharge and intense swelling. I'm glad to see it's normal and will get better.
Try blackberry cuttings around the plants. 😊♥️
Thing attacks my mint nothing it's weird and thank god though

Sand definitely worked around Salvia plant, 0 slugs
You can use water bottles big enough to cover the whole plant pot to deter pests it'll also act as a mini greenhouse which promotes foliage growth 😉
Cool 🐧
No need to kill. Use strong espresso coffee powder...5/5 or 8/10 which ever you can buy and not weaker coffee bean powder. That is the strength that no slug likes.
HAVE YOU HEARD OF NEMATODES? YOU DON'T NEED TO POISON YOU SOIL WITH CHEMICALS. YOUR LITTLE NEMATODES WILL SEEK AND DESTROY THOSE PESKY SLUGS. IT'S COMPLETELY NATURAL AND IT WORKS VERY WELL. THEY'RE ALSO VERY AFFORDABLE. GOOGLE NEMATODES FOR SLUG CONTROL. ALSO, I CAN SEE YOU ARE VERY FOND OF STRAW WHICH IS FINE BECAUSE IT CONDITIONS YOUR SOIL BUT I USE SHREDED PAPER (NEWSPAPERS, AMAZON PACKING PAPER, ANY NON GLOSSY PAPER) AS MULCH AND THE SLUGS LOVE IT. THEY WILL GO FIRST FOR PAPER ON THE GROUND BEFORE ATTACKING YOUR PLANTS. HONEST. WORKS LIKE MAGIC. OH, AND BECAUSE THEY'VE EATEN IT, THEY PROVIDE CALCIUM AND NITROGEN TO YOUR SOIL WHEN THEY POOP IT. FINALLY, MY FRIEND USES FIBROUS MULCH WHICH IS PAPER BASED BUT I DON'T KNOW WHAT IS ADDED TO IT AND SHE SWEARS BY IT. SO, YOU HAVE MANY (NATURAL) OPTIONS BEFORE YOU USE BEER TRAPS OR CHEMICALS.
Thanks. There's lots of content on here about pest deterrent. Yours is by far the best. Xx
@@Elderly-Marian-in-UK aw, thank you 😊
Great vlog thank you for the experiment =-)
I really appreciate how you posted update on them!
Beautiful x
Enjoyed your video and interesting results. I'm using organic slug gone in my pot's and they don't like it. I use slug traps in the garden beds with a homemade slug bait. Get a jar and add one cup of water, one tablespoon of sugar, dry yeast and flour then mix it in the jar and add to your slug trap's.
Did the avocado ever make it?
OMG! YES! Much to my surprise 😂 the previous winter it died right back and I though I'd lost it, then last spring it grew a new shoot! This past winter I wrapped a heat matt around the base ( not touching ) and it hasn't lost any leaves and is looking brilliant! The stem/trunk has doubled in size too. Now it's just a waiting game to see what it does next and hopefully in the future I can make a video and update everyone with the progress 😀
@@Moggybox Amazing, can't wait to see what the future has in store for it!
Vaseline mixed with salt around the rim of pot works for my beautiful hostas
Great tip! Thank you 😀
Ive used nettlles and brambles chopped up for 50 years use like a mulch everywhere
Thank you for sharing, I so appreciate when experienced gardeners share their knowledge and wisdom. There's just nothing better than learning tried and tested techniques. 😀
Mix some Vaseline with cayenne pepper mixed
Thank you for the suggestion! I might have to do an updated experiment with all the new suggestions from every one 😀
@@Moggybox your very welcome
Have you noticed an increase in your electric bill? Just thinking it's on for a long time.
Great question! I think at the time I filmed the video, I think I worked out it would cost £1 to run for 24 hours. Unfortunately, since then our electricity has pretty much doubled, so I guess it will be different depending on your electricity rate and comparing running time, and how many Kws per hour the dehydrator uses versus your price per Kw you use. You could also use a smart meter to give an indication of cost? Bottom line.. I honestly didn't notice any significant change or increase to our electric bill. Compared to using our oven it was about 90% cheaper... ( I rarely use the oven now, because we have an air fryer. However, After baking Christmas cakes at a low temp in the oven at 140/ 120 for 8 hours one day cost an extra £10! so although it's not like for like with temp or time, it does suggest that the dehydrator with be significantly cheaper.) And I guess the other consideration is, what other options are there and how do they compare. Hope this is somewhat helpful 😀
I had heard Vicks vapour round the top of the pots as the slugs & snails don’t like the smell.
Great suggestion, might be interesting to do a comparison between vicks and Vaseline! 😀
Hahaha😂😂, the dog is guilty😂
Always 😂
Hi Debra. I've been growing an Avocado tree in the soil in my greenhouse for 9yrs. Once the main trunk starts turning brown they become much hardier. It seems to take about 3yrs. The only leaves I lose these days are those that are touching the glass. Good luck
Oh wow! Where abouts in the world are you? Hopefully I can have the same success. The avocado tree is actually doing really well! It completely died back last winter, and then grew a new shoot last year. This past winter I used a heat matt around the base and it stayed green all winter and hasn't lost any leaves. The stem/trunk is twice as thick as the previous stem, so I am very hopefully for the future and the possibility of a positive future progress video. 😀
Hi Debra, I'm in Folkestone. I suspect our winters aren't as cold as yours. We typically don't see temperatures much below -5. My tree would be massive by now if I just let it grow. But as it's in the greenhouse I have to prune it really hard to keep it under control. It's year 10 now and I was hoping it might flower. But it hasn't. So I'll just wait another year. I used a small greenhouse heater the first two or three winters. But as soon the main trunk want brown I stopped and it's been fine. Good luck with yours. They are fantastic little trees
An olive tree can take 3 to 12 years to produce olives, depending on the variety and climatic conditions. Greetings from Dundee
Thanks for the info! I'm forever hopeful that the olive tree will produce olives, but realistic enough to accept that our weather in the north east of Scotland is likely to curb that hope 😆
5:00 that’s leafminer which is infectious…
Thanks for the info. I've been battling them ever since. Any tips or advice on how to get rid of them greatly appreciated. 😄
@@Moggybox it’s tough as the cause (parent bugs) will keep coming back to plants they like. I try to limit the breeding damage by removing damaged, deformed and stuck together leaves in order to storm larvae reaching adulthood. Nearly all resources say use an organic insecticide but I try to be chemical free.
hi which part of scotland are you located ?
We're up in the north east of Scotland - Aberdeen 😀
@@Moggybox nice.i live in aberdeen too.trying to find people who grows in this part of the country and then saw your video but was not sure where exactly were you located. looks like I've found the right one at last 😃looking forward to more videos for 2024
love it. Can you link the lights you used please, the spot lights and the wire, is the wire attached to a separate battery. Thanks
Ah, I bought them so long ago, I can't remember exactly, but if you search for battery operated LED fairy lights, you should find something similar. The ones I usually use have battery packs that can by removed. Hope that helps 😀

Hello fellow Scottish vegtable garden grower 😊 lovely looking garden, it's given me lots of inspiration for my garden this year. Happy growing!
Aw, thank you so much! happy growing 😀
I've missed thes videos! Hope yourself and Andy are doing well?
Aw, thank you. We are doing well. I'm hoping to get back to filming soon. Unfortunately, my Dad passed away last year, quite suddenly, so we've just been focusing on friends and family, and I just haven't had the energy or inspiration to film or edit that much. Apologies, that might be too much information! But I believe, honesty is always the best policy! Now it's been so long, I'm not sure how to get going with RUclips again 😹 But, life is good, and I am looking forward to spring and getting in the garden and enjoying all the little things. I'm also determined to start brewing again! I have Rhubarb and custard flavourings to put to good use! If the last year has taught me anything, it's to do what makes you happy, brings you joy and leaves you with happy memories. Hope you are well 😀
@@Moggybox Not too much info at all, it's nice to actually feel part of your community. I'm so sorry that you lost your dad thise times can be really tough, I do send my deepest condolences to you and your family, It puts things into perspective when it happens so quick and the most important thing is like you said to spend time with all the ones who you're close to, to make those memories and just live in the now. The energy and inspiration will come when you least expect but don't feel rushed by it we are all just happy knowing that you're on the mend and doing better and doing what makes you happy and making those amazing memories, that's the most important thing in life. I get that, never the less I bet its like riding a bike once you do start it again. Oooh me too, I've got some plants already going but just wanting a bit more dryer, warmer weather to get out and potter about 🤣 thats sounds delicious, I did try my hand at a winter cider, it came out okay but I will say more spices next year 😅 the sloe vodka came out a lot better, I think I will try gin this year 🍹 I think that is the best mind set to have towards life especially when things get tough, having loved ones around and happy memories in your head is what makes it all worth it, I'm doing a lot better this year, things are looking up now so can't complain🥰 I'm so grateful you've took the time out of your day to respond I really appreciate it. Sending love and happiness your way.
Crystal clear....just like a cider SHOULD be! Good on you for that.
Thank you! 😀🍻
Looks great. I’ve had PMU make up on since my 30s. Now at 66 😮 & I’m trying to have it removed as pigment migrated and my PMU artist tried to camouflage with like beige which wasn’t very noticeable tbh. Thankfully I only had one treatment. I since have had 3 sessions of laser removal 😱 the pain is excruciating but I can now see this horrible beige line below it very fine blackish . The beige/cream well 🤷♀️It’s nowhere near my skin tone. I’ve a Celtic skin with pinkish undertones. Def not cream/beige/yellow. Actually to camouflage properly you should use the colour opposite on colour wheel which for black is a red shade/undertone to soften the migrated black . Now I’m told the laser can’t remove the beige but I’m not giving up. Apparently it can be removed with saline or glycolic which will be painful. I’ve worked with glycolic acids before in beauty treatments as I’m trained beautician but that beige LINE is coming off by hook or by crook. I’d brows tattooed way back 35 yrs ago & having it removed by laser too as pigment faded to greyish but the pain of removal isn’t as bad & they are fading well as I hadn’t them topped up like eyes 15 yrs ago. After removal and healing I’m having them redone by an award winning Ukrainian PMU artist in Dublin. She trains and judges & is the best here on island of Ireland. She’s flat out as she has several artists flying in to her for advanced training from abroad. I’m hoping to get dusty/powered brows with proper shape and colour plus eyeliners symmetrical each side done to suit my age. Remember this ☝️the face/eyes change but the tattoo doesn’t (apart from ink migration over the years) . At least now tough as it, is we can get removal but waiting time between sessions is 8 weeks some artists say 12 and you may need up to 10 sessions to completely remove. Never ever let anyone try to cover it up though because that camouflage is opaque has titanium dioxide in there and is almost impossible for laser removal. Some say Picosure & Picoway lasers can shift beige white etc can it others say no. It’s gonna be a long joinery for me and I don’t have much time on my side (pensioner just past) 😂sadly. I started in Sept 23 and don’t think I’ll be completely finished by Sept 24. A lot of time atravelling and expense Make up artists hate it the😮 now I know why. For now I’m back to kohl eyeliner and shade in brows with ID bare minerals powder with gel to keep in place

Hi! New to brewing and I’ve only used Demijohns and I want to brew bigger batches using buckets. I’ve noticed there’s no air lock on the bucket you’re using? Do you not need one on buckets? Matt :)
Good question. We tend not to leave the brew in the bucket for more than a few weeks, and then transfer over demijohns for a few reasons, the bucket isn't air tight, so you risk contaminates getting in and spoiling the batch, also we can't see when the fermentation (bubbles) stop, so its just easier to see with the glass demijohns. We usually start in the buckets, so we can remove any 'scum' that floats to the surface in the first week or so, and when making cider with real fruit, we find its helpful to let any fruit matter or extra yeast, etc, to sink to bottom, so we can get clearer cider later. hope that helps 🍻😀
Ty! I'm having a New Year Eve party those would be great. I was going to pick some up but they are so pricey. I just subscribed to your channel. 😊
